Due to the Gulf Stream that flows by our Bay we have the “warmest waters north of North Carolina”. Hard to believe but quite true! Water temperatures of 70F-75F are common from mid-summer to mid-fall.
Moreover, the bay fronting the property is quite shallow and, as a result, it can be even warmer. I swim there daily (though the shore is rocky rather than sandy). All boating is accessible right from the property so indulge in a twilight dip or paddle off into the sunset using the canoes, kayaks or the 14' rowboat that are available for guest use. Life jackets are also provided.
For those who like sailing I am pleased to offer the use of Le Couchon, a 19' day sailor, which can hold four comfortably. I am always looking for an excuse to go sailing so I’d be happy to take you out myself, if you lack experience or just want company. The more adventurous are also invited to go ocean cruising on my classic Bristol 30 sloop. It’s not uncommon to see a harbour seal or an eagle on such excursions, so keep your cameras and binoculars handy.
On site it’s also possible to dig for clams and to harvest mussels and oysters galore. A waterside bonfire area is provided complete with pot for those impromptu lobster boils. Also provided is a gargantuan picnic table that can comfortably seat 16 to 18 real people! Walk along the shore and experience our amazing sunsets across the water. Start a bonfire by the water (no laws against that here!) and let the evening hours slip by. Watch the amazing constellations and occasional shooting stars - all visible since there is little ambient night light around.

Within a short drive of the property there are activities and day-trips galore.
Just one minute away are endless miles of beautiful, deserted beaches. Even on hot, summer weekends, one can beachcomb for hours and often not meet a soul. On the other hand there are a number of life-guarded beaches close by – especially welcome for those with little toddlers.
For those who enjoy hiking we have over 60 miles (100kms) of pristine and well-marked hiking trails, some snaking through original old-growth forest. Other outdoor activities include horseback riding, bird-watching, ocean kayaking, and whale watching. Golf aficionados could play a different course every day and finish off with Canada’s most spectacular course, the world-renowned Highland Links, in Ingonish, Cape Breton.
Those seeking more of a cultural bend can check out our local, professional summer theatre, tour an award-winning vineyard, visit authentic fishing villages or world-class museums such as the Alexander Graham Bell Museum in Baddeck. Many other day trips are possible including two fascinating living museums: Sherbrooke Village, a pioneer village of historical buildings almost entirely on their original foundations and Louisburg, a fascinating 250-year-old French fort, reconstructed with historical interpreters.
Beautiful driving tours can also be had starting with our local Cape George Trail – a lovely drive that snakes through our impressive highlands and genuine fishing villages. The start of the breathtaking Cape Breton Highlands National Park is just over an hour away as is the ferry to Prince Edward Island. And beautiful Halifax, the most bustling, maritime, cosmopolitan city in Atlantic Canada is just two hours away.
